Making Simona Boskovic, Kass Photography

DVmakeup:

Last week I booked a shoot with Kassandra de Araujo, my models, my concept. But everything turned wrong!! Called 10 models, all of them unavailable, because of exams, short notice and other fashion reasons. So I called my friend and model William de Oliveira, and he had a model keen to shoot.

I was nervous because my concept was beautiful, but not everybody is able to wear it. I need especific features to make it happen!  ( cant put a reference yet).

I must say that I was more than nervous! Hate cancelling shoots, especially my shoots. It was a big oportunity for me because Im a big fan of Kass´s work:

I forgot my phone, I can not work without my phone. Did not have kass, jamie and model´s number. Thank G everybody is addicted to Facebook!

The shoot should start at 12:00, we only got there 13:30. Its unprofessional but I couldn´t do much and Im Glad that, I was able to shoot.

The shoot:

The concept was different, cute, strong makeup. But to do that, I need a lot of time, lets say max of 1:30. I love perfect, clean, challenging and fresh looks. Every look I do, is different fom each other. But this time, I was thinking about something more unique.
My mind didnt help me, my stress affected my creativity, I couldnt think or have ideias....so I played safe. Purple + Smokey eye.

Kass gave me a reference of strong, long eyebrows mixed with cat eyes.

I did it, with few mistakes in between, such as using brown eyeliner instead of a dark brown pencil. lol

Im really disapointed, because I couldnt handle this challenge, although the result was amazing. The best pics I have in my portfolio til now.
When everything seems to go wrong, my work is great, I cant imagine when everything goes as expected...

Big thanks to:

Mua Work

Mua- Makeup Artists work is not easy! Its talent, stress, vision, personality, creativity all these elements and more,in one single person. + you are the one who needs to make everybody around you happy ( client, model, photographer, designer, hair stylist and sometimes the rest of the staff).

For test shoots I have to take more makeup than I actually need, because, clients and photographers can change their plans while you are doing the makeup and you need to be ready for a change, otherwise it will be unprofessional.

The bad aspect: makeup is heavy, difficult to transport, and you can loose/break some of your products!

Muas need to have hair products for quick styling, if theres no hair stylist.
( I do not understand why all makeup artists have to do hair. Im not a hair stylist, its not fair to loose a job because of that. What about hair stylists? Hair stylists do not know how to do makeup, right?!?)

While the photographer is taking the pictures, the mua needs to check how the makeup looks in camara. Im always worried about the amout of product I use, because while Im doing the makeup it can look good but the camara can pick up too much or too little makeup and, the colours can change. Becareful with bright colours and glitter.

During the shoot you must have:
1. powder
2. gloss
3. comb
4. blush
To retouch the makeup.

Next time, I will tell you the products I take for shoots and why I use them!
Thats all for now.

Intro

Who Am I?

Dvmakeup stands for my name Dércia de Vilhena. Im more than 20 and less than 30 years old. I was born in Luanda-Angola-Africa but i moved to Porto-Portugal-Europe with my parents. I was a happy, single child but always creative. I used to play alone. I was able to play many caracters at the same time, paint (a lot), sing, dance, study, travel, etc.
Im the same girl, a bit bossy, but the same!

When did I start?

I love clothes, colours and camaras! I used to make my barbie clothes. I had no money...so i used to cut t-shirts; make paper dolls and design paper clothes and paint them( freak)! Gud times
( out of topic: i was always confused about the fact that Im Black and my daughters ( my dolls) white?!?! But I found one black. And I still have them all :) !! )
At school i used to take pictures of my classmates, of myself. My camara used to be my Bible!

In 2000-2007, in Luanda, makeup was something impossible to find. The makeup industry, is more than weak. Only 2 makeup artists but, i found their work weak, comparing to the rest of the world!

When I moved to CPT, in 2008, I was learning english, and I was bored. I decided to do some courses. I did Human Resources and 5 intensive days Makeup course at Moving makeup school.
My first course was a bit scary, didnt know what eyeshadows to use and find the right colour of foudation.

Makeup courses dont really work for me, because what might be good for the teacher might not be good for you. I decided to self teach, read books, watch tutorials and PRACTICE.

I started doing test shoots 2 months ago, and its totally different, a lot of work, hours, products...grrr but its god. Its great when u work with cool, experienced ppl.

Why am I doing this?

Im blessed for doing my work . I dont see myself doing something else, its crazy. I feel that I can have and do more and more things, soon.
I dont know how many ppl Ive met since im doing this...designers, photographers, models, muas, tv. Thank you!!

Future?

Just watch me!
